Our Story

The J & B Staton Group was started in commemoration to James and Bertha Staton. They were the cherished parents and grandparents of the operators of our company. The Statons, as they were affectionately called, operated their lives on 3 core values: Hard Work, Dedication, and Strong Relationships. Growing up in rural North Carolina, they both were motivated to achieve more than their parents and relatives. From sharecropping in tobacco and cotton fields, they left their town without completing primary school. Moving to Duquesne, PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh, they laid roots and James found work in the United States Steel Mill. While juggling long hours at the steel mill and raising 9 children, James and Bertha went to night school and furthered their education.

They stressed that all their children must graduate from high school as that would afford them the opportunities they did not have. Dedicated to succeed and provide for their children, James and Bertha committed themselves to learning new skills to find success. Moving from the farmlands of North Carolina to the cold bustling city of Pittsburgh with only a desire, James had to learn a trade foreign to him and Bertha had to learn to cope with being a new mother. Working together, their determination drove them to master their new conditions and circumstances. James ended his career at the steel mill as a senior furnace operator, and Bertha successfully mastered motherhood with all 9 of their children graduating with honors and a couple achieving valedictorian acknowledgements.

They were loving, hardworking, and friendly Christian people. Their love and friendship was so immense that it spilled into their neighborhood. James and Bertha were pillars in their community setting the example of building long-lasting and meaningful connections. From their friends to their family, the importance they set on the value of building relationships was deeply impressed. These are the core values that the J & B Staton Group has been built upon.
